Toronto Western Hospital Neuropsychology Research

Melanie Cohn, PhD, CPsych
Neuropsychologist
Scientist

Melanie Cohn is a Scientist and Lead Psychologist of the Neuropsychology Clinic at the Krembil Brain Institute UHN, and an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto. Her work bridges clinical care and research in neuropsychology, focusing on cognition in aging and Parkinson’s disease.
In her clinical role, Melanie specializes in assessing cognitive changes in Parkinson’s disease and evaluating risks associated with neurosurgical treatments such as deep brain stimulation (DBS). Her research advances evidence-based clinical neuropsychology and contributes to the broader field of cognitive neuroscience. Current projects investigate cognitive outcomes in Parkinson’s disease and following DBS, as well as the neural bases of episodic memory. She also examines how culture and diversity shape neuropsychological assessment, working toward more inclusive clinical care.
She collaborates with colleagues in medicine and neuroscience on projects exploring the neural bases of memory and the cognitive effects of neuromodulation therapies. She supervises clinical and research trainees across the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels, with a focus on interdisciplinary training and clinically relevant research.
